Art 2 Final Exam

1) My most successful project was probably the clay meal project. The turnouts was one of my favorites and I didn't really have any big issues with this one. I also believe that this assignment was the most successful because in the end it looked the most realistic. I was given the theme of breakfast foods and and had first thought of a standard meal with like waffles, eggs, and bacon. I wanted to make something a little more original so at first I chose a meal with french toast, fruit and hashbrowns. For the apples and bananas, I had actually sculpted a full size of that fruit and then cut of those pieces. Of course the details were added as well as the blueberries but the toast didn't really have much texture. I added more and more foods to fill the plate and ended up making a full sized meal. I am proud of the way I painted both apples and bananas, and also the toast. I looked at a real piece of almost burnt toast trying to paint this and I also added the browning to the apples. This project was mainly my most successful because there were not many issues during the process the ending looked realistic.

2) My least least successful project would have to come down to my first draft from the visual journalism. My topic for this page was Christmas At the start of this project, I had so many creative ideas, or so I thought it was creative. I had cut off so many magazine pictures thinking this was suitable enough for my special page! I had so many ideas that I didn't know how it would all fit on my page. That was my first problem. I didn't have a specific story or scene that was taken place so I really just had a ton of random things that reminded me of Christmas in random places. for example a had a big teddy bear that was made see through a little and I thought it would look cute in front of cute Christmas wrapping paper. It actually ended up looking like a big blob of brown because it was not bold enough. after I put all my little clips on and realized it may not turn out as I thought in my head, I added little bows and decorations. This really framed the page but framed a not so great piece. I wish I had planed out this page better and had more organization.

3) This piece really shows my growth from this year. The perspective project was pretty good and I used value well with the colored pencils to get the right shapes. The next one beside it is my colored pencil drawing of close up oreos. I think these two are very similar because I tried to use the same techniques with colored pencils in both. Because the oreo picture was later after I had learned many more skills, I thought this project was better and more detailed. I really love the eno picture because it was a picture taken from my backyard and my drawing looks like the real thing. The perspective was good but I feel that most of the background was not very skilled and my pencil strokes were too strong. Its obvious that I worked too hard and long on the legs, eno, fence, and house to where the rest of the parts look last minute made. On the other hand, my oreo feels pretty equal all around with the amount of effort I put into it. The oreo does still have visual colored pencil lines because I had tried to make the cookie darker. The details on the oreo were very planned out and I worked long and hard to get the right value on. The eno project helped me use perspective in everyday settings and overall these projects helped me grow in my artistic ability.

4) One mini lesson that I think really helped me when for this semester is the jolly rancher one. I think using oil pastel helps you to comprehend using value because you can overlap and mix the colors in a unique way with these tools. It was a perfect shape to make too as it is a cylinder and and we could choose the color of our candy. I choose the blue because there are different shades of blues to use including black. I think that this was a great exercise also because we had to figure out how to make a wrapper look see through and also have value and creases. The prep painting project was also very useful to me because I got to get a good feel of how to use my paint. I also enjoyed this cause it wasn't like a draft where I painted the same picture over and over again, but I got to explore a little more. We had to paint like the exact picture we saw so I had to paint out of my comfort zone. I also love that we combined my picture with three other students ones and compare how we portrayed the artists skills.

5) My favorite medium to work with was the paint. I didn't realize how much I could do with the paint and brushes. I also didn't realize how much a painting could look differently depending on what you do with the background. In this eagle painting, I had painted newspaper scraps onto the canvas before painting over it. My favorite pert of painting is being able to make your own color. The beak of my eagle had so many different shades of oranges and yellows to make it look more realistic by adding these values. I was also shocked when I realized my white eagle shouldn't be painted white if I wanted it to look real. Instead I used really light grays and tans to get the shape of his face and realistic somewhat dirty look to it. Lastly, the part that I really love about using paint is how you can make the texture. painting isn't like coloring or drawing because paint can be clumped up and shaped while brushing. Paint has so much to work with that it just had to be my favorite medium to use.
